In addition to writing, I am also an e-book copyeditor. This was what I was doing before I became an author, and it’s something I really do love, so I continue to help out other authors.
Edits for clients are done under my real name, Carolyn Pinard, and you may see this in some books**.
What does a copyeditor do?
Copyeditors basically fix grammar, spelling, and punctuation issues. A lot of self-published books and e-books these days seem to be riddled with these types of errors, which can result in bad reviews and hurt your sales. It’s so worth it to have a copyeditor look over your work. You may think it’s error-free, but a second set of eyes is invaluable, as a good copyeditor can find things most people miss. I will also let you know if I see plot holes or problems in the storyline as a part of my service. Continuity is important to the reader!
I will not take out full pages or paragraphs like a content editor would; I will, however, make suggestions on words or sentence structure I feel will sound better. You can take or leave these suggestions, it will not hurt my feelings either way. I will not add any extra content or write for you, but I will give advice, if asked.
Copyediting and Self -Publishing Prices:
Copyediting: I charge 0.0020 per word (one read-through… two read-throughs is 0.0030 per word). If you are a first-time author, and this is your first book, the charge is an automatic 0.0030 per word. Manuscripts are accepted in Microsoft Word format only (I use Word’s Track Changes Feature) and must be 12-pt font or higher, must be double-spaced, and must be your complete and final draft. With this service you will receive grammar, spelling, and punctuation changes and suggestions. I will not take out full pages or paragraphs like a content or story editor would. I do not give story advice or opinions, but I will fix character and storyline inconsistencies if I see them.
E-book formatting: For a flat fee of $40.00 I will format your book for both Amazon and Smashwords or Draft2Digital (which distribute to iTunes, B&N, Kobo, etc.). You really won’t have to do anything but write the book and send me the final draft, along with your book cover and a synopsis of the book.
Createspace/hardcopy formatting: I charge a flat fee of $80.00 to format the interior files of your book for Createspace, regardless of the size.
I only edit fiction books – mostly romance, erotica, and paranormal fantasy/romance. I will consider other genres, but I do not do nonfiction, biographies, manuals, self-help books, cookbooks, etc.
If you are an author who has already self-published a book, but has received less-than-stellar reviews on Amazon, B&N, etc. based on grammar or editing problems, it’s in your best interest to get it edited ASAP. Books can easily be re-released in e-book format, all clean and tidy. Poor grammar, spelling, and punctuation can be very distracting and really take away from the story, not to mention get you slammed by reviewers!
Payments are made through PayPal only. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and put “copyediting” in the subject line to contact me.
Some of the authors I do or have done editing for can give you a reference, if you need it.
“Writers shouldn’t consider editing an expense; they should consider it an investment. The smart ones already do.” ~David Gaughran
