Nolan yanked the key from his pocket and slung his leg over the seat of his Ducati. A split second before he pushed the key into the ignition, he looked up and saw a shiny red Corvette parked in the corner of the lot. Standing against it was none other than the hot blonde vampire from the bar.
Nolan shook his head and realized he wanted nothing to do with her. He was so fueled with rage and sadness at losing yet another friend, he suddenly couldn’t care less about the health and welfare of the pretty blonde. They could stake her for all he cared. He looked down and pressed both hands to the side of his head, frustrated at the war of both thoughts and emotions that were battling inside him. One minute he cared about what happened to her – that would be the Old Nolan, the one he was familiar with, the one he and his family and friends knew and loved. Then there was this New Nolan, the one who was way too close to matching the personality of Kovah.
The thought disturbed him deeply, but before he had time to mull it over any longer, he sensed a presence next to him. Looking up, he saw her standing there.
“Hey, good lookin’.”
Nolan stared at her, not sure what to say. Gone was the rage, replaced by incredulousness. He also realized he still didn’t give a shit about what happened to her. “What’s up, vampire?”
The look on her face was completely worth it. Nolan tipped his head back and howled in laughter. His laughs, however, were halted when a searing pain ripped its way through his jaw. Opening his eyes, he saw the blonde had one strong hand gripping both sides of his face. One side was still sore where Kovah had landed his punch, and Nolan tried to shake out of her grip by snapping his head to the side.
“What did you just call me?” she bit out.
He shook his head from side to side and smacked her hand away, a new guild of confidence beginning to seep its way into his backbone. Chuckling, he responded, “You heard me.”
“Get away from him!” they both heard someone holler.
They looked up to see Kovah and the Riders come boiling out of the bar, headed in their direction.
“Shit!” the blonde vampire yelled.
She went to run away but Nolan grabbed her by the back of her top. “Get on!” He jerked a thumb behind him.
The blonde didn’t need to be told twice. She hopped on his bike and the two were whizzing away at speed before Kovah or any of the Rebel Riders could reach them.
